@giorgiopie touring up north on one of our bikes. Such a rad guy. He was actually the first person to get his bike out of the 32 we made. Just now finishing putting together the last few. #bikenyc to #Montreal

A PART OF HISTORY

Alexander Vijay Smith

This 1935 BSA golden deluxe 3 speed bicycle rolled through my shop the other day.  It kind of blew my mind.  Every part on this bike was made with care and thought and really shows the high quality craftsmanship that was prevalent in the early 1900's.

The Gaslights on the front and rear are from the  the early 1800's and sport a sweet little suspension system.  Bernard, who owns the bike and is in love with the old details light up the lantern and let me take her for a spin.  "The glass lens is super bright and provides a focused beam for night riding."   The bike rides smooth and true.  The fork is raked way out so turns are subtle as you ease into a bank.  The handlebars and stem are called Lautawasser Bars which were made by an old bike builder name Jack Lautawasser And the shifter is an early Sturmey Archer quadrant shifter.

BSA (Birmingham Small Arms Company) was a major industrial combine, a group of businesses manufacturing military and sporting firearms; bicycles; motorcycles; cars; buses and bodies; steel; iron castings; hand powered and machine tools.  At its peak, BSA was the largest motorcycle producer in the world and the gun factory proved remarkably adaptable to the manufacture of cycle parts.
